Sustainable Dining at the Cafe

The cafe is committed to being an integral partner in the environmental mission of the College.  As a partner, we believe that it important to think green and therefore we constantly evaluate our policies and procedures in light of our impact on the environment.  We are proud of our initiatives that encourage best practices like reducing, reusing and recycling.

During the first six months as the Cafe Manager, the Cafe has:

1. Recycle our cooking oil with a local company which reproduces the oil into bio fuel. 
2. Attend the College Sustainability Committee meetings.
3. Recycle the plastic and tin containers.
4. Continue to recycle the cardboard boxes.
5. Encourage our Cafe employees to take public transportation or car-pool.
6. Reduce the number of deliveries of our vendors thus reducing the carbon in the air and reduce energy.
7. Recycle the plastic wrappings and bags.
8. Soon the Cafe will add more compostable utensils to it's existing compostable plates and bowls.
9. Shutting off as many lights in our refrigerators and freezer when closed.

 Working as a partner with Las Positas College gives us the opportunity to share our commitment with students from all over the world who in turn energize us with their passion and perspective.  The good things we do here now can have a big impact for generations to come.
